Aug 3 Midland to Musquash Channel Anchorage

Aug. 3

This is a Canadian 3 day  holiday weekend.  Monday is Civic Day and businesses and government are shut down.  Add to that a wonderful forecast of 75 degrees and sunny and every boater in the province   is out dropping the hook in an anchorage.  We noticed boats starting to head out from the marina on Friday and it was a steady parade until we left at 11 AM on Saturday.    We attended a great briefing regarding the routes to take and places to anchor on the Georgian Bay by the General Manager at the marina on Fri. night.    While there’s some good anchorages not too far from Midland at Beausoleil Island he said to just stay away as it’s the favorite place for the locals to raft up and party.  He recommended another anchorage up Musquash Channel a little further away but less crowded and more scenic.   He marked 4 potential spots on our charts.  Despite crossing a good bit of open water  it was still a bit of a choppy   due to all the boat traffic and their wakes. We finally wound our way up the channel and were discouraged by the number of boats at the first 3 anchorages but number 4 around the back side of Longuissa Point was perfect with good wind protection and only a few boats.

So, we dropped anchor and chilled for the afternoon, reading and relaxing and then fired up the grill for some steaks for dinner.   Then dropped the dink and took a sunset cruise.  Listening to the sound of the loons as I write.  Great first evening at anchor.

Journey for Aug 3

Aug 4

Just another glorious day in Canada.   Perfect temperatures (mid 70's), amazingly clear  blue skies and plenty of sunshine.    Realized looking at those blue skies we had not seen or heard a large aircraft or even seen any contrails in the sky since leaving  Trenton  weeks ago.   We had been told there was a waterfall at the end of Musquash River  and decided to  kayak up to it.  We got part way there yesterday in the dingy but also struck  some rocks twice  with the engine skeg  (no damage) so figured kayaks might be a better alternative.   It wound up being a much further paddle than we expected.
Plugging along in our kayaks
An exhausted kayaker!
Took us 1-1/2 hours to get there.  The view was nice but the water wasn't running at top flow to give us the best view.
Then same time to paddle back.  Overall, a nice way to spend a Sunday finishing up with yet another great sunset!
